Biography of George Peabody:

George Peabody was an entrepreneur and philanthropist. He was born in South Danvers, Massachusetts on February 18, 1795. He began working at a dry-goods warehouse and worked his way up to senior partner. He later moved to London where a he was a successful business man. As a philanthropist, he supported education with the Peabody Education Fund and by establishing libraries and museums. South Danvers, Massachusetts was later renamed Peabody, Massachusetts in honor of him.
